This app needs help. UNIDEN come on!
This is probably an orphan app but it is still usable, at least within a local area network…
Does it work?….yes it can 🤔 Is it finicky?….you betcha! 🫤 Is it unpolished?…yep! 🫤 Does it look like a high school class project?….definitely! 🫤 I’m not going to crab about the 3 second delay. It doesn’t matter if I’m in another part of the house. With all this said…as I write this…I AM listening to my BCD536 on my iPhone14+ in another part of my house via local LAN. Far away from the 536. Nice👍 If I switch to another app…Siren continues working in the background. Nice! 👍 I have waited years for this functionality! And it’s finally here! Frankly, I gave up on any hope of a remote control app. Perhaps it’s simply class action lawsuit avoidance. Don’t sue us…We fulfilled our promise(barely) My hope is that Uniden will continue to improve this app or at least let another development team clean it up. 7 YEARS WITHOUT ANY UPDATE ?!? I WOULD PAY (can you hear me Uniden? I WOULD PAY) to use a much more polished and stable app. Like many others have pointed out…this app looks and functions like a beta convention demo app. But it can work!! I enjoy using my Uniden scanners. I own 4 different models. They work well. Please don’t let Siren die 😵 on the vine.
Remember to use the app and get the most out of it. 1 put your WiFi in the BCD536HP 2 look inside the radio WiFi information To see that the ip is there. 3 on you siren app. Information; settings; before you hit agree, check you have to put the same IP address in the siren as the radio has. 4 if you ever have a issue hit on the app. Information; setting agree. It will come right back. 5 if the app. Is not responding pull the USB out of the BCD536HP and plug it back in. I’ve used this app. For two and a half years. Most of the problems people have with this is they don’t know what they are doing.
That’s all I ask for- audio out capability to bluetooth headphones. Otherwise the app is good enough.
The siren app worked fine with my BCD536HP connected to WiFi. My new SDS200 is connected to the Ethernet port and I get no audio from the siren app.
The possibilities are endless! But …still not right.
Anyone who has purchased the bcd536 scanner and were lied to about this function, I ask you to go to consumeraffairs.com to sign up and write a review of how there is no U.I. For the wifi function. It's time for retribution! This scanner cost too much for them to get away with this! Got a reply from consumer affairs. They need more reviews to publish a uniden page. Sign up! Speak up!
Does not output sound via Bluetooth or the headphone jack :( Tried on multiple iphone models. You’re forced to listen via the speaker on the phone, not ideal.
Still use the app but it keeps crashing now. Needs an update.
Had no problem setting up or operating app!
This app almost never works.. such a shame they abandoned it
This app doesn't work and hasn't been updated in years. The scanner is still being sold and marketed with this functionality. I'll be returning the scanner if I can't get it working remotely as advertised.
App obviously not supported. Every function causes app crash. What a shame, come on Uniden!
One of sadness applications in the app store. No support and app completely useless in IOS 12 and Android 9. I'm unable to up address of the scanner because accept button off the screen. Spend your hard earn money on trx2, DMR audio is much better.
After waiting over 3 years for Uniden to fix this app I have come to terms they aren’t going to fix it. This app had so much potential. Really a major ball drop from Uniden.....
Useful around the house as radio itself is in office. A little buggy but not bad. I would gladly pay for it if it had more controls for the radio remotely.
This app is is not useful at all. When will Uniden update it, so we can effectively control our BCD536HP scanners as well as listen to the audio. Applications like ProScan on Windoze works like a charm. Maybe uniden should work with that developer to make something useful. One drops $500+ for a scanner and expects good software for the device. Come on Uniden, get to work!
This ap works fine for me over wifi. I haven’t tried it mobile. I wish it provided total control over the scanner, but it does not.
Basic app with some basic functions. Really needs updating with the ability to adjust the volume. I have the scanner in the back of my truck hooked to a speaker up front. Was hoping this was going to be more of a remote with more functions. Not been updated in 2yrs
This app WILL NOT work with iphone x. crashes and wont connect to scanner. Uniden should fix it properly or pull it from the app store.
A couple years after the release of the 536, the Siren app remains basically a beta demo. It doesn't work for more than a few minutes at best. Promised updates never happened. After paying several hundred dollars for the scanner, it's disappointing and scammy for Uniden to abandon their promised feature.
Listen, I don’t review apps, but this one is terrible. Barely works with the scanner, no matter what device I try it on Uniden really needs to dedicate some serious time and money to updating this app with some quality developers so that they can make it the app that they claim it to be
I am able to scan the BCD536HP from inside my network and outside. You cannot control the scanner other than simple tasks, but it does work well. To gain access outside of your network you will need to setup port forwarding on your router to the scanner.
I just put this app on my iPhone and iPad today and so far it’s working great for me. Took a little while to figure it out but after I connected my BCD536HP to my wi fi then entered the IP address from the scanner into the app it started working! I can leave my scanner on but my volume all the way down then listen to the scanner in near real time on my phone or iPad in another room or even in the yard. This way it doesn’t disturb the wife when she’s watching tv as my scanner is in the living room. So far so good.
works great using home VPN BUT no bluetooth connection..
I don't know what all the complaints are for, this app works great for me. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the slight delay in in the audio stream compared to the actual scanner. Also wish I could control more scanner features with it, but either way very happy with it.
Uniden can you update this app to support BLUETOOH audio??? The audio only works iPad/iPhone speaker need max volume to just hear a wiser .... paid + $500 for radio expect better app support that this
When it loads properly, I can listen to and control the scanner over my wifi connection. However, it sometimes takes 5-10 attempts at loading the app to get it to work. Then stops working randomly. I made the mistake of purchasing this scanner because of the app...should have read the reviews first.
Terrible. Uniden promised REMOTE access, but this app only works from home. 10' is not remote. In any event, the app looks horribly amateurish and doesn't work any better. How embarrassing.
I almost didn't buy the BCD536HP because of all the bad reviews on this app. I was leaning toward the Home Patrol 2 because of the interface. Luckily, I found a local guy selling one and asked if I could bring my Ipad to make sure it works. I was able to connect just fine after have both on same wifi connection. Sound quality is good and works on iphone too just fine. There is a learning curve to setup and youtube provides a few good videos to help you set it up. The only issue with audio I found is what others have found is that if you have something plugged into the headphones jack when you start app it still goes to iphone or ipad speakers. You simply unplug and plug it back in and its works fine. All I can suggest to ppl having issues is make sure you have up to date iOS and find the right ip on the same network on your scanner by going to the wifi settings in the menu and hitting the show wi-fi Information. Even though this scanner has ez to program HomePatrol zip code features you still need to be good at tuning in exactly what you want to monitor. Good luck out there and happy scanning the bands!!!!
Hasn't been updated in over a year. This is barely useable and appears to be a beta version. Only works over a LAN - trying to forward over the Internet (using DMZ or a VPN) results in telemetry, but no audio. The audio is a good 3 seconds behind the data on the screen, replay / recording don't work right, no way to remotely reset the radio, app doesn't close properly, it's just a beta proof of concept to be demoed at a trade show - can't be used in real life. There are much more mature remote control s/w apps out there that do this same thing a lot better. I bought this radio solely for the EDACS PROVOICE decoding (an extra 50 dollar upgrade BTW) and thought the remote would be a nice touch, but come on! No updates to this S/W since last year? It's vaporware. Thank god it was free.
I really wanted this app to work, but I have not found it capable of doing anything other than take up space on my phone. So, if you need to waste space on your phone or tablet, this app is perfect for you. The 536hp is a great radio. Just don't expect it to work with this app.
This app is useless. Always blank and if you shut it down you have to start over I'm deleting it from my phone
Bought the 536HP which is a great scanner for Motorola only systems. However the siren app is poor with no functionality and Uniden sells scanners flaunting this function. Uniden should be ashamed as I have lost respect! Get rid of this crappy App!
If you are thinking about buying a $450+ scanner because of this app STOP. It works. The interface design could use a serious refresh (looks like something from the 90s). Missing some important functionality but the basics are there. For what it is worth, if you do get one of the compatible scanners, there are 3rd party utilities (VLC) for computers that will allow you to stream the audio there. That is a pretty decent experience.
This is a sorry App does not work at all. A Waste of time . Rob
Does not connect to the scanner!! Needs an update and fix ASAP!!
Absolute garbage! Have tried to get this to work for the past week w/o success. About as worthless as their sentinel software.
The app works when the iPhone and radio are connected to the same wifi or when iPhone is remote but connected via VPN to the network that the radio is on. The audio is very flaky though. There is a problem with extreme low volume on bluetooth connected devices. And, if the app is started with headphones already plugged in it still outputs to iPhone speaker instead of to the headphones. Also, Unit IDs are not shown on the app display even though they are set to display on the radio. Come on Uniden, an update to fix these bugs is needed.
Uniden is continuing to Churc its customers around. This incomplete app is just an example. So far they are two years behind with the entire X36 scanner lineup.
It's still feels like beta code - no updates - strange audio issues with headphones and Bluetooth. Delay and lag on button pressing to hardware - issues with recording and app background / mixing issues - no updates in a timely manner
I have to agree with Nexrad7526 - this App should be removed. It is completely useless. I purchased the Uniden 536 because of the wifi capability, and now realize it was all hype. Completely non-functional. My scanner connects to my router. I have an IP address. I enter the IP address in this App... and NOTHING. Come on Uniden... dont you have any self respect?
All steps taken and taken again THE IS CRAP! Doesn't do anything. Followed all steps and the app will not connect; scanner has IP, router reports connected and app has correct IP as noted in scanner and router. Apple! Remove this app. its crap!
Spent the better part of the day trying to get it to connect. Re-flashed the scanners firmware as instructed. App will not connect. Scanner connects to the wifi just find.
Mine does not connect I phone 6 every thing is correct what am I doing wrong
Where are the set up instructions?
I love the concept but the delay is bothersome.
